On desktop, pick a folder that your scanner or camera saves to. Everything inside it can be imported into a vault with one click — encrypted on the way in and removed from the folder once stored securely.
No. The encryption key is derived on your device from your passphrase, and never leaves it. We don't hold it, can't recover it, and never see it. Any backup you make is ciphertext — useless without your key.
Lose the device? Restore an encrypted backup on a new one and unlock it with your passphrase — the quick-unlock PIN is only local to each device, so you'll re-set it there. Forget the passphrase itself? It's the only key to your vault, and by design we can't see it or reset it — so store it somewhere safe, like a password manager. That's the trade-off for a vault no one but you can open.
When you share a vault, the recipient gets an encrypted copy with its own share passphrase — handed over via QR code. Your own passphrase never leaves your device. You choose view-only or edit access, and can revoke it later. The exchange rides on your own cloud storage; nothing passes through us.

No, and that's deliberate. LOX used to run in the browser, but browser storage can be cleared by the browser or the operating system whenever space runs short — a vault you can silently lose isn't a vault. The app now writes to a real folder on your device's filesystem, which nothing can evict behind your back. If you used the web version, export your documents there and import them into the app.
Export your files anytime. Your data isn't hostage to the app, and your passphrase lets you restore the vault elsewhere if we ever go away.
